I am happy to announce the start of Juju Charm Developer program. It’s a simple premise, if you are interested in working on Juju charms, we will pay for your cloud time on Amazon Web Services. All we ask is that you share this work with the community.
- Download and install Juju
- Visit developer.juju.solutions and fill out the form.
- You’ll receive an email within 24 hours with instructions on how to get the AWS credentials.
- Work on your charm. Here’s how to get started.
- Share your work.
Ok, so what does that mean? Have you ever wanted to figure out all those great things about big data? Hadoop, Spark, Pig, Tez, and Storm and that entire ecosystem is changing the world. IBM is putting 3,500 developers to work on just on Spark. That is huge, and what better way to dive in than with our comprehensive set of big data workloads. Don’t start from zero, stand on the shoulders of giants.
And it’s not just big data, any piece of software that people can run in a cloud can become a block for others to build upon, so charm something that is interesting to you. People will always need things like mail servers, monitoring, backup, and the myriad other services out there.
Some caveats here.
- We will be autoreaping instances after 24 hours. That means that while ideal for development, this also means that we’re not doing long-lived deployments. If you’re interested in doing long lifecycle work just let us know and we can work something out.
- We’re currently limiting it to 10 instances per person at one time, but as before, if you’re doing something awesome and need more resources, let us know.
- We expect the work to be public, so commit early and often; break stuff. Are you doing something interesting? Blog it, and we’ll syndicate it right here on Insights.
