Canonical and Supermicro collaborate to advance enterprises’ Kubernetes adoption

Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, and Supermicro, a global leader in enterprise computing, storage, networking and green technologies, today announce a joint offering helping enterprises to accelerate the design and deployment of their Kubernetes stack through an optimised, pre-certified solution.

With containerisation technology such as Kubernetes innovating at different rates to an IT department’s ability to test and implement, enterprises are looking for ready-made solutions to accelerate their adoption while reducing the complexity, risk and the cost of building in-house.  

Jointly developed and tested, the offering combines Canonical’s Charmed Kubernetes and Supermicro’s servers architected to meet an enterprises’ specific infrastructure requirements. By adopting a pre-certified solution, enterprises can deploy a fully optimised Kubernetes stack more economically. Organisations can also benefit from Canonical’s enterprise support for the full stack from the Ubuntu host operating system to Kubernetes software components on top through Ubuntu Advantage.

The adoption of container technologies, orchestrated by Kubernetes, can provide organisations with considerable opportunities to improve the agility, speed and manageability of their infrastructure – especially important in a multi-cloud environment. Canonical’s Charmed Kubernetes is tested on the widest range of clouds from public to private, and from bare metal to virtualised infrastructure, enabling organisations to take advantage of a multi-cloud strategy to port workloads between different environments.  

Today’s announcement builds on the existing partnership between the two companies, with an OpenStack cloud managed by Bootstack on a Supermicro reference architecture already available to customers.
